Traveling with The UGB: Walken

The following is from Walken of the UGB. Read more about the film here, and see a bit of the film over here.

It’s true that all across the United States, people are preparing for something… I’d be hard pressed to tell you what, exactly… or rather, it seems like everyone is preparing for something different…

Walken and Gus in Iowa

We find the most hope in places where it looks like hope fled long ago.

We press on, in between throwed rolls (add link) and “This American Life” podcasts, watching cornfield after cornfield pass by. We stop for every outstanding view of the river.

Gus and Walken conducting interviews at Occupy St. Louis.

I play accordion in front of many abandoned buildings.

We press on, hearing stories of the floodwaters that rise.

and we ask, “yes?”

and we hear, “yes.”

Gus, Walken, and dredge pipes in Missouri.

I am hopeful. It is easier to press on, sometimes, when the reason for your perseverance is just down the road, or over that bluff, or flowing under that bridge in the distance that seems to be kissing the sky.
